  • Dariwn Nunez recently broke his silence after Uruguay’s World Cup heartbreak
  • The Uruguayans exited the competition, despite a 2-0 win over Ghana in their final Group H game
  • According to the Liverpool forward, his nation did not deserve to exit the World Cup in the manner in which they did

Darwin Nunez has opened up on Uruguay’s dramatic World Cup exit with a disheartening statement.

The South Americans missed out on qualifying purely through goals as their 2-0 win over Ghana meant they were level on points with South Korea.

South Korea’s win over Portugal meant Heung min Son and his wads were the ones in jubilation as they progressed to set up a clash with Brazil in the next round.

'We didn't deserve this ending but the dream ended,' Nunez said. 'Sorry to all the Uruguayan people.' His comment read as per Daily Mail.

The Liverpool ace played in all three of Uruguay’s group stage matches, but was taken off early in the games against Portugal and Ghana.

It was not the best campaign for Ururguay, who only got off the mark against Ghana with their first goals of the tournament.

They were beaten 2-0 by Portugal and their clash against South Korea ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

The fact that they did not score enough goals worked against them as South Korea moved into the knockout stages on goals scored.

Edinson Cavani destroying VAR

Sports Brief also reported on Edinson Cavani’s visible frustration as the striker took it out on the VAR after Uruguay’s World Cup exit.

The 35-year-old was introduced into the game in the 65th minute to replace his long-time strike partner Luis Suarez during their last Group H game against Ghana on Friday.

However, the Valencia forward was full of frustration and aimed his fury at the VAR screen after his side was eliminated from the Mundial.

In a video shared on social media, Cavani was sighted punching and throwing the VAR screen to the ground as he walked past it on his way to the dressing room with his defeated Uruguay teammates.
