Uruguay players were furious with German referee Daniel Siebert for failing to award them a penalty late in the game.

Suarez's long-term strike partner Edinson Cavani was brought down in the box by Ghana's Alidu Seidu but the challenge was not even reviewed by VAR.

Even before that, Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez was challenged by Leicester City center-back Daniel Amartey inside the Ghana box.

The German official was told to review his original decision of no penalty on the pitch-side monitor, but Siebert refused to overturn his call which left Uruguay fuming inside a tense Al Janoub Stadium.

Several Uruguayan players lost their temper and ambushed Siebert when he blew his whistle for full-time.

Suarez blasts FIFA

"I feel sadness and disappointment. My son is also leaving the stadium with the image of that sadness, so for a father it is difficult, but he has to face the situation that he has," Suarez said, via Mirror Sports.
He added: "I see a penalty for Cavani because he is cut off by the defender and he puts his body in front of him. Darwin's is very clear too. They are not excuses, but incredible penalties are being awarded in this World Cup. And there is the committee of referees and FIFA, and they have to try to explain themselves better, at least."

Suarez then claimed he tried to greet his wife and children in the stadium but was denied by FIFA, adding:

"I saw a France player with his children on the substitute bench."

Evra mocks Suarez

Meanwhile, Patrice Evra has sent fans wild with his social media activity in the wake of Luis Suarez's emotional World Cup exit with Uruguay.

Suarez, who was hooked off for Edinson Cavani during the second half, wept uncontrollably on the bench as the final whistle confirmed his nation's departure, in what is sure to be his final World Cup as a player.

Evra then made his feelings perfectly clear by 'liking' football brand 443's post showcasing Suarez's misery.
