The Black Stars were awarded an early penalty after Sergio Rochet was judged to have brought down Mohammed Kudus in the box.

The irony was not lost on football fans, who recalled the last time Ghana had a penalty against the South American team.

Ghana were given a penalty in the 2010 edition of the tournament after Luis Suarez handled the ball on the line.

Asamoah Gyan stepped up and missed the spot kick, and Ghana were eventually knocked out of the tournament as a result.
