After another dreadful World Cup campaign, Joshua Kimmich and Germany are still licking their wounds.

France superstar Antoine Griezmann has sent a touching message to Kimmich, as the painful exit from Qatar continues to sink in.

In their first game, Germany were stunned by Japan, who beat them 2-1 despite being one goal down for most of the match. In that game, Flick's side dominated the first half and created good goal scoring chances, but they weren't clinical enough, according to Japan Times.

Germany massively improved for their second match against 2010 winners Spain. Despite going behind, they rallied back to get a point from the game.

However, damage to their campaign was already done by Japan. Despite winning 4-2 against Costa Rica, the four-time champions were eliminated by goal difference.

Die Mannschaft finished level on four points with La Roja, but Luis Enrique's side have a better goal difference thanks to their 7-0 battering of Costa Rica in their opening game.

Japan delivered the coup de grace by beating Spain on Thursday night.

Griezmann's message to Kimmich

According to the Daily Mail, Germany's midfielder Joshua Kimmich was devastated after the game and called it the worst day of his career.

"I'm afraid I'll fall into a hole! It makes you think, these failures are connected to my person."

Griezmann, who is having a phenomenal campaign with France, took to Twitter to send a message of support to the Bayern Munich player.

"You are a great player! You will be back soon Joshua."

Germany have been up and down since lifting the trophy in 2014 in Brazil. They won one game at Euro 2020, before being knocked out by England in the last 16.

How VAR kicked Germany out

Sports Brief earlier reported on how a VAR kicked Germany out of the 2022 World Cup. Japan's second goal, which had initially been disallowed, was given after camera angles showed the ball was still in play before the goal.

The VAR stepped in and overruled the pitchside referee. It is not immediately clear which camera angles Fernando Guerrero looked at.

When you look at the incident from the side, the ball had completely gone over the line, but from the top, a part of the ball was still on the line.
