- Havertz won the player of the match award, but looked distraught while receiving it
Germany winger Kai Havertz cut a distraught figure as he received his player of the match award on Thursday, December 1.
The Chelsea star entered the fray in the 67th minute to replace David Raum, when Germany were trailing Costa Rica 2-1.
Costa Rica, who were considered underdogs in the game, had taken a shock lead in the second half thanks to goals from Yeltsin Tejeda and Juan Pablo Vargas.
Havertz turned the game on its head with a superb cameo performance however, equalising for Germany in the 75th minute before giving them the lead with five minutes of regulation time to go.

As BBC reported, substitute Niclas Fullkrug added a last-minute fourth, but it proved to be futile as the other result in Group E, where Japan surprisingly beat Spain, meant Die Mannschaft’s victory was not enough to see them through.
For Havertz, he can look back at the game with some pride, as he came on to completely turn his nation’s fortunes around - at least for that one match.
His cameo earned him a player of the match award, but a photo of the Chelsea man receiving his accolade left fans disheartened.
Here are some comments from fans:
