Senegal to Face FIFA Sanctions After Breaking World Cup Rules

African champions Senegal are set to face the wrath of FIFA, after breaking one of the rules of the World Cup in Qatar.

Senegal made it to the last 16 of the World Cup after beating Ecuador 2-1 at the Khalifa International Stadium on Tuesday.

However, the celebration has been met with a probe into the actions of the team before the match against the South Americans.

Senegal coach Aliou Cisse appeared at the pre-match presser without a player, with that incident now being investigated by FIFA.

According to FIFA's rules, a player and a coach could should be present for the media before all World Cup games.

"The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened proceedings against the Senegalese Football Federation due to the potential breaches of article 44 of the Regulations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, article 2.7.2 of the Media and Marketing Regulations and article 8.5.3 of the Team Handbook," read a statement from FIFA according to the Mirror.

The statement confirms the regulation breaches concern the press conference of November 28, ahead of the match between the Teranga Lions and the South Americans.

Before the opening game against the Netherlands, Cisse attended the pre-match conference with Kreppin Diatta and did the same ahead of the game against Qatar with Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

Koulibaly pays tribute to Diop

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Senegal captain Koulibaly wore a special armband to pay tribute to the late Papa Bouba Diop, who had passed away two years earlier.

The Chelsea star wrote 19 on his armband, representing the jersey number of the legendary Teranga Lions forward.

Koulibaly went on to scored the winner, as the African champions beat Ecuador in the final Group A game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Senegal players honour late Diop

Sports Brief also reported on players of the Senegalese national football team paying a heartfelt tribute to the late Diop, after the team beat Ecuador to reach the last 16 of the World Cup.

Captain Koulibaly, who wore a special armband in remembrance of the late forward, netted the winner for the African champions.

After the game, Teranga Lions players celebrated in front of their fans with huge banners of the ex-footballer.
