  • Qatar have been far from convincing with their performances during the ongoing 2022 World Cup
  • The tournament host was unable to post positive results in all their Group A fixtures against Ecuador, Senegal, and the Netherlands
  • Qatar is now the first World Cup-hosting country to lose all their group-stage matches in the history of the tournament
  • Félix Sánchez's men kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 defeat against Ecuador before losing to the Netherlands by a similar score line

2022 World Cup hosts Qatar have set an unwanted record at the tournament after a disappointing campaign in the group stages.

Qatar earned automatic qualification for the 2022 edition of the tournament as they were hosting the competition.

The Félix Sánchez-tutored side were pooled in Group A alongside Senegal, the Netherlands, and Ecuador.

Qatar kicked off their World Cup campaign with a 2-0 defeat against Ecuador on Sunday, November 20.

They followed up the disappointing result with another humiliation against Senegal, who put three past them.

It was hoped the hosts would push for redemption in their final group fixture against the Netherlands on Tuesday, November 29, but went on to lose 2-0 to finish bottom of Group A with zero points.

According to ESPN, Qatar have become the first World Cup-hosting nation to lose all their group stage fixtures.

The Middle East football powerhouse had initially set the record as the first country hosting the World Cup to suffer defeat in a curtain-raiser.

Rashford and England eliminate Wales

Sports Brief earlier reported on England beating Wales and eliminating them from the 2022 World Cup.

The three Lions booked a World Cup last-16 clash against Senegal as Marcus Rashford, and Phil Foden inspired a 3-0 win. Wales's first World Cup tournament in 64 years ended in heartbreak as they failed to progress from the group stage.

A spluttering first half showed the Three Lions still have room for improvement as they chase a first major trophy since the 1966 World Cup.
