Manchester United have waded into the ongoing debate as to who scored Portugal's first goal, in the 2-0 win over Uruguay in their second group game.
Bruno Fernandes' cross appeared to have taken a touch off Cristiano Ronaldo's head on its way into the Uruguayan net. However, the goal was awarded to Fernandes, who later scored from the penalty spot to seal the win.
Though the goal was awarded to Fernandes, Ronaldo has appeared to claim the goal as his own.
However, the Red Devils' social media admin posted a tweet which credits Fernandes with two goals, instead of their outspoken former player.

There were different reactions to the tweet, with many calling it a dig at CR7 and others agreeing with the sentiments.
Ronaldo: United should be grateful
Though the relationship between Manchester United and Ronaldo might have ended sourly, some feel the Portuguese star deserves appreciation from the club.
His first spell with the club brought a lot of success, including three consecutive Premier League titles and a treble in the 2007/08 season, Sports Brief has reported.
He also won the 2008 Ballon d'Or, the last Premier League player to win the coveted prize. CR7 then commanded a £80m transfer to Real Madrid, a world record at that time.
Fernandes credits Ronaldo with goal
As Sports Brief earlier reported, Fernandes said he crossed the ball to Ronaldo and thinks his former Manchester United teammate got a touch on it.

FootballFIFA credited Fernandes with the goal, but the debate continues as to whether it should be Ronaldo's or not - which would make it his ninth goal in Mundial history.
Portugal are through to the knockout stages and will surely want to move away from the controversy generated by the goal. Their focus will shift to the final group stage game against the already-eliminated South Korea.
