Fortunately, the lighting system was restored moments later, sparking wild cheers from the more than 44,000 fans who were following action inside the stadium.

Photos of the embarrassing moment captured during the blackout had only the advertising hoardings at the side of the pitch illuminating the stadium.

At the time, the scores were still at 0-0, with neither side able to break the deadlock. Play was restored shortly after, with the two teams heading into half time goalless.

Casemiro was the man of the moment for Brazil, as he stepped up to fire home the only goal of the match.

The Man United midfielder's goal was enough to power the Selecao to the knockout round of the tournament, leaving Switzerland with a mountainous task to join them in the last 16.
