Poland’s Robert Lewandowski could not hide his emotions after he scored his first-ever World Cup goal against Saudi Arabia in a Group C encounter at the Education City Stadium on Saturday.

The 34-year-old secured maximum points for Poland after netting in the 82nd minute to seal a 2-0 win against a stubborn Saudi Arabia team who had missed a penalty earlier.

After stealing the ball from the defenders, Lewandowski used his left foot to finish past Saudi goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais. In the 90th minute, he nearly scored again but lost his balance close to the goal.

Lewandowski who has now scored 77 goals for Poland, broke down in tears after netting his first-ever World Cup goal for his country.

The Barcelona forward had played in all three games for Poland at the 2018 World Cup in Russia but failed to find the back of the net in the competition.

Lewandowski makes history with first World Cup goal

Robert Lewandowski has entered the top 10 list of men’s international goalscorers after netting his first-ever World Cup goal for Poland in the 2-0 victory against Saudi Arabia, Sportstar reports.

The 34-year-old has now equalled the goal tally of Brazilian legend Pele after he scored his 77th goal for Poland in his 136th appearance for the European powerhouse.

Lewandowski had failed to score in his first 4 World Cup appearances for Poland but the Barcelona forward broke that deadlock against Saudi Arabia on Saturday, November 26.
