The African teams have had a mixed start to proceedings at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Senegal has already lost and won a match; Tunisia and Morocco drew their first encounters, Ghana was defeated, and Cameroon was disappointing in their loss.

Former Bafana Bafana captain Teko Modise shared his thoughts about their possible fortunes in Qatar.

Speaking exclusively to Sports Brief, Modise said:

"I think two African teams will get out of their groups. Senegal and Morocco. Morocco will go furthest because Senegal lost Sadio Mane."

At the time of publication, Morocco had opened their account with a 0-0 draw against Croatia and were preparing to take on a formidable Belgium.

Senegal had lost their first match 2-0 to the Netherlands, before swatting aside hosts Qatar 3-1. Their final match against Ecuador is a straight knockout match, as the victor will qualify for the Round of 16, though a draw is a minimum required by the South Americans to do so.

Qatar described as worst host

Qatar and Senegal met in an intriguing 2022 FIFA World Cup Group A encounter.

The Lions of Teranaga went into the break 1-0 up courtesy of a Boulaye Dia goal in the 41st minute, leaving the hosts on the brink of elimination after just two matches.

This was then confirmed when Senegal eventually won 3-1.

The match was trending on social media as observers gave their views, with the hosts coming in for harsh criticism, as they were confirmed as the worst-performing home World Cup team in history.

Breel Embolo scores against Cameroon

Cameroon began their campaign at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with a 1-0 defeat against Switzerland.

Monaco forward Breel Embolo scored the only goal of the game, which condemned the African giants to defeat.

Embolo did not jubilate after netting the goal however, because he was born in Cameroon, and coach Rigobert Song has hailed him.
