However, that did not stop him from shining for Portugal in their World Cup opener, as he found the back of the net in the 65th minute to hand his side the lead. The goal saw him become the first player in history to score in five different World Cups.

The former Man United star made his debut in the World Cup against Angola in 2006 and has gone on to appear in four other editions of the tournament.

Incredibly, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has scored on all occasions, a rare feat that has seen him become the first player to do that.

The achievement earned him praise and admiration from fans, who took to social media to hail him.

One said:

"Ronaldo Man Of the Match. Goat"

A second added:

"Goat for a reason."

Another joked:

"Lionel Messi must be crying."

A fourth posted:

"Ronaldo is clearly the world's all-time best player."

While another quipped:

"We are privileged to have been around to witness Ronaldo's magic. GOAT."
