FootballWorld Cup 2022: Denmark Striker Andreas Cornelius Misses a Sitter Versus Tunisia
- Andreas Cornelius produced arguably the miss of the tournament after missing from point black range against Tunisia
- Cornelius was attacking a loose ball from a corner but surprisingly failed to score a sitter for the Danes
- Incredibly, that was Denmark's best chance of the match as they drew 0-0 against a resilient African side
Football fans were shocked when Denmark striker Andreas Cornelius missed a sitter, that could've handed his country a win over Tunisia in their opening 2022 World Cup encounter.
Tunisia produced a resilient performance to secure a valuable point against a good Danish side.
The North Africans have never reached the Round of 16, but their performance against Kasper Hjulmand’s dangerous side should encourage them.
Although many fans were surprised by Tunisia's resolute performance, Jalel Kadri's side went into the tournament in great form, having beaten Chile and Japan in friendlies despite losing to World Cup favourites Brazil.

Denmark were disappointing in the first half, struggling to create good chances despite having playmaker Christian Eriksen.

However, Denmark were close to taking the lead with 20 minutes left to play. Eriksen whipped in a corner which was met by Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen.
The ball fell to Cornelius, who needed to tap the ball in to give his country the lead. However, he inexplicably missed the target, leaving his teammates shocked.
If he had scored, that would've been a valuable goal, as chances were hard to come against the North African side.
There was still more drama in the game, as the Danes felt they should've gotten a penalty, but this was not awarded by the referee following a brief VAR check.
Denmark faces defending champions France on Saturday and will be looking to get their first win, but they will need to improve significantly if they want to beat Kylian Mbappe and company.

Sports Brief earlier reported on toothless Denmark failing to break a feisty Tunisian side, in their opening match at the World Cup.
The African side nearly took the lead in the 11th minute, with Mohamed Drager's long-range effort clipping off Andreas Christensen and drifting just wide.
The Danes began to get a foothold in the game, but talisman Eriksen struggled to shake off the attention of Tunisia's well-organised backline. Although they got into dangerous positions, any attacks were comfortably snuffed out.
