  • Cristiano Ronaldo has followed up on his ground-breaking chess image with Lionel Messi by claiming that he wants to checkmate him in real life
  • Ronaldo and Messi teamed up to promote a popular brand designer in an image that shattered the internet
  • The two will once again attempt to win the World Cup, with Qatar 2022 seemingly their last World Cups

Cristiano Ronaldo used an interesting analogy as he revealed his plans in Qatar as Portugal get ready to get their World Cup campaign going.

Ronaldo used the chess analogy after he and his arch-rival Lionel Messi came together to promote brand designer Louis Vuitton.

The ingenuity of photographer Annie Leibovitz broke the internet after both superstars posted the image on their social media handles.

Ronaldo has now revealed that he would love to get one better of his rival at the World Cup. With both stars extremely advanced in their footballing years, Qatar 2022 might be their last World Cup.

Despite all their glamour and profound success, neither of them has ever won the World Cup. Messi came close in 2014, but his Argentina side were beaten in the final by Brazil.

It is understood that whoever can lay his hands on the trophy in Qatar can lay claim to the greatest footballer of all time.

"We're doing checkmate in life, not just in chess. Let's see. It would be nice. Since it happened in a chess game, in football it would be more," Ronaldo said, as quoted by Goal.

Portugal faces a difficult-looking group against Uruguay, Ghana and South Korea in Group H, while Argentina takes on Saudi Arabia, Poland and Mexico in Group C.

Ronaldo could be dropped in World Cup games

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Portugal boss Fernando Santos had hinted at possibly dropping embattled Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

So far this season, Cristiano only has three goals to his name as and his struggles have not been limited to the pitch alone.

Off the pitch, the 37-year-old is making headlines for his sensational interview with Piers Morgan, where he all but burned bridges with his current club Manchester United.
