Senegal Head Coach Aliou Cisse had initially named Mane in his final 26-man squad for Qatar, but it soon became apparent that his injury would require surgery. He has since been replaced by Anderlecht's Moussa N'Diaye.

The reigning African champions will face the Netherlands on Monday, 21st November, before taking on hosts Qatar and then wrapping up Group A matches against South American opposition Ecuador.

After Croatia, the Atlas Lions will face Belgium and Canada in Group F.

Mane speaks after withdrawing from World Cup

Sports Brief has also reported that Sadio Mane has finally broken his silence after being ruled out of the World Cup in Qatar. He suffered a tendon injury while playing for Bayern Munich.

Mane had hoped to make a quick recovery and return for his side Senegal before the completion of the group games, with Head Coach Aliou Cisse even including him in his squad for Qatar.

However, Mane was forced to withdraw after it became crystal clear his injury would require surgery - and thus a longer period to recover.
