2022 World Cup: Ghana Head Coach Otto Addo Makes Huge Claims Ahead of Global Showpiece

The head coach of Ghana Black Stars, Otto Addo has stated that his side has the quality to spring surprises at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana players have landed in Qatar ahead of the global showpiece, and will face Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay in a challenging Group H.

Although they are the lowest-ranked side going into the tournament, the coach of the side believes the Black Stars will do well.

Ghana play Portugal in their opening fixture on November 24 and four days later take on South Korea, before their final group game against Uruguay.

Addo told FIFA:

“We have a lot of quality. I see that in training and in our matches too. It was an especially tough game against Nigeria, but we competed with them even though we’d made a lot of changes."

Addo commended his team on adapting well and quickly, adding that the Black Stars are positively set for the future due to the wealth of young talent in the team, combined with the balance of older and more experienced players.

He also commented on Ghana being in defensive good shape, reading the game well, and possessing a talent for knowing the right time to press the opposition.

“We’ve got a great deal of quality up front, our individual class. We can do damage one-on-one and with our speed.”

Stephen Appiah assesses Ghana squad

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah believes Ghana have a good chance of making it out of Group H, despite being tagged as underdogs.

Appiah, who captained the national side at the World Cup in 2006 and 2010, insists the Black Stars will provide stern competition for their opponents.

Coach Addo named his team for the tournament on Monday, leaving fans of the national team in shock at the absence of top-performing players Joseph Paintsil and Majeed Ashimeru.
