The Englishman played 106 times for the Three Lions but did not have a lot of success at the World Cup. According to the Evening Standard, he represented England in one European championship and three World Cups.

African teams performed poorly in the 2014 and 2018 World Cup. The last time an African team went past the Round of 16 was in 2010. Ghana reached the quarter-final, famously losing to Uruguay on penalties.

Lampard's prediction about African teams

Lampard, who formed a devastating partnership with arguably the greatest African player of all time, Didier Drogba, said Senegal will perform well, according to Supersport.

"I'd like to say Senegal. I have a link to them to the players that I've coached, like Eduaord Mendy, obviously Gana Gueye."

Lampard said the Black Stars had many team members playing at a higher level and who have been successes in recent tournaments.

"When you get to this level of football in the World Cup, you rely on the players with experience. So I think they could be strongest."

Lampard also praised the development of African football in the last decade.

"I've got a lot of respect for the development of the African teams in the World Cups, and players that are playing all over the world and in Europe. So I know they will be tough opposition for whoever they play against."

African teams will be looking to win the tournament for the first time ever, butnd the competition will be tough.
