Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies was on cloud nine, when he was named in Canada's squad traveling to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup.

Head coach John Herdman named a 26-man roster on Sunday, and 22-year-old Davies was included in the Reds team for the tournament.

Davies took to Twitter to celebrate the announcement and urged his followers to believe in their dreams.

He tweeted:

"A kid born in a refugee camp wasn’t supposed to make it! But here we are GOING TO THE WORLD CUP. Don’t let no one tell you that your dreams are unrealistic. KEEP DREAMING, KEEP ACHIEVING!"

Davies was born in Buduburam, a Ghanaian refugee camp, after his parents fled Liberia due to the civil war that lasted from 1999 to 2003.

His family eventually immigrated to Canada when the left full-back was just five, before they settled in Edmonton, Alberta.

Canada will kick off their World Cup campaign on November 23 when they take on European giants Belgium, before facing Morocco and Croatia in Group F.

Davies names most-feared African nation

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Davies, who plays for Bayern Munich and the Canadian national team, said the most feared African side is the Super Eagles of Nigeria, even though they failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

With the Mundial kicking off in less than a week, on November 20, players, managers, officials and fans are waiting in anticipation.

In the history of the World Cup, no African team has ever won the title. However, the continent's five representatives this year are expected to give account of themselves.
