Ivan Toney will surely be extremely devastated after missing out on Gareth Southgate’s squad for the World Cup.
Southgate announced his 26-man squad on Thursday, November 10, just months after Toney revealed his family predicted he would be in the World Cup.
At the time, the Brentford striker was enjoying a hot streak in form and was heavily tipped to become Harry Kane’s backup in Qatar.
The England manager decided to go with Kane, Marcus Rashford and Callum Wilson as the go-to players for goals for The Three Lions, leaving no room for Toney.

This season in the Premier League, Toney has scored eight goals, and is among the top scorers this campaign, excluding Manchester City’s extraordinary forward Erling Haaland who has 17 goals.
As reported on Express Sport, his form earlier in the season saw him earn his first call up, which was an extremely proud moment for a player who worked his way from League One with Peterborough.
Speaking in September, Toney was asked about his ambitions, and he revealed the immense faith his family had in him ahead of the naming of the final World Cup squad.
"You don’t really think four or five years down the line as a player but then as it got closer and closer to the World Cup, my chances became bigger and then finally sitting here now, you can see where my parents were coming from and why they had that belief in me, that one day I would have this opportunity.” Toney said as quoted on Englandfootball.

After the snub, Toney is now left to ponder his England future as has the option to switch allegiance to Jamaica, who had earlier tried to woo him with a call up in March this year.
Southgate explains Tammy Abraham snub
Earlier, Sports Brief also reported on Gareth Southgate’s reasoning that led him to snub Tammy Abraham.
Tammy Abraham had initially put himself in a firm position for selection, after scoring an impressive 27 goals in his debut campaign in Italy last season.
But his form seems to have taken a massive dip, and he has only managed to find the net four times in 19 games so far this term across all competitions.
His poor run of goal scoring form, according to Southgate cost him a place in the England squad.
