Marco Reus’ bad luck before big tournaments continue.
The Borussia Dortmund captain is set to miss another major tournament, this time the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Eurosport reported that Reus was not selected for Germany’s World Cup squad due to an ankle injury. Reus has been struggling with the ankle injury of late and was unable to shake it before the German squad was announced.
Reus was originally injured in September during a game against Schalke 04. The German international landed awkwardly, damaging the ligaments in his ankle. He had to be stretchered off the field. It was feared that the injury alone would have ruled him out of the tournament. He then returned much sooner than anyone expected.

Reus was back in action against Union Berlin a month after sustaining his ankle injury. Sadly he re-aggravated the injury and was sidelined again, missing Dortmund’s last few games.
Sadly, for Reus, he’s often missed major tournaments due to injury. Qatar will be the second World Cup that he won't be available for. Reus also missed the 2014 World Cup, a tournament Germany went on to win. He also missed Euro 2016 and Euro 2020.
Marco Reus is currently on the injured list, but it’s not something he’s unfamiliar with.
The Borussia Dortmund captain has experienced numerous injuries, many of which temporarily derailed his promising career, Sports Brief reported.
Reus started his youth career at Dortmund and has spent the majority of his career at the club. Apart from a 3-year spell at Borussia Mönchengladbach, Reus has only played professionally for Dortmund.
