France manager Didier Deschamps is confident Karim Benzema will be fully fit when the 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off in Qatar on November 20, despite Benzema missing Real Madrid’s last few games.

Benzema has not featured for the Spanish giants in their last 3 matches, prompting backlash from from some Real Madrid supporters who believe he is preserving himself for the World Cup.

According to Madrid Universal, Deschamps insists Benzema’s injury crisis is a result of the striker playing too many matches, but also revealed Benz will do anything to be fit for the World Cup.

“He knows that the World Cup is a very important moment for him. He will do everything, like the whole group, to be ready on November 22. There was a period where Benzema played too much and is now paying the price with small injuries, but he knows the World Cup is important.”

Benzema is expected to lead France’s attack alongside Kylian Mbappe, as Les Blues tries to defend the trophy they won back in 2018 in Russia.

Deschamps offers update on Varane

Meanwhile, Deschamps hopes Raphael Varane will be fit for France’s World Cup opener against Australia on November 22, after naming him in his 23-man squad, Metro UK reports.

Deschamps is confident over the role the Manchester United defender will play in the coming weeks for France, as they bid to win the World Cup for the second consecutive time.

Varane suffered a hamstring injury in United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea on October 22, but the 29-year-old appears to have made good progress in his bid to regain full fitness.

Deschamps unveils World Cup list

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Didier Deschamps officially unveiling his team to defend the World Cup title in Qatar.

As expected, the French squad is star-studded, with top talents like Kylian Mbappe, Karim Benzema and Antoinne Griezmann headlining the list.

France beat Croatia in the 2018 World Cup final in Russia and will be hoping lightning can strike twice in Qatar. Les Bleus face Australia, Tunisia, and Denmark in group stage action.
