The 35-year-old defender who had fallen down the pecking order at Barcelona announced his sudden retirement from the sport after playing a minimal role under Xavi.
Shakira’s mother, Nadia Ripoll has now backed Pique’s choice as she believes the Spanish defender must have thought hard about it before making a decision, Sportskeeda reports.

Meanwhile, Shakira and Gerard Pique have finally come to an understanding over the custody of their two children following the couple’s highly publicized split, Marca reports.
The Colombian singer has been requesting that the children come with her to live in Miami while Pique preferred they stay with him in Barcelona at least until they have finished their education.
Shakira appears to have prevailed as she will be taking the two kids to the United States rather than letting them stay in Spain with the former Barcelona defender.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Barcelona's Gerard Pique announced his retirement on Thursday after a decorated career, saying "the moment has come to end this journey".
The veteran defender bows out with four Champions League titles and the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 with Spain.
Pique is also expected to be involved in the club's final La Liga fixture before the World Cup, a trip to face Osasuna on Tuesday.
