Notably, Flamengo striker Pedro, who only has two caps for Brazil, was selected ahead of Firmino.
As far as the Brazil attack is concerned, here are the players selected as reported on by BBC:
Antony (Manchester United), Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal), Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal), Neymar (PSG), Pedro (Flamengo), Raphinha (Barcelona), Rodrygo (Real Madrid), Richarlison (Tottenham Hotspur), Vinicius Jr (Real Madrid).
Fan reaction to Firmino's exclusion
As expected, a section of fans on social media were not content with Firmino missing out on the spectacle.
“The fact that Bobby Firmino is not on Brazil squad is insane to me. He is a completely different player to any of those names on that list. Once again, overlooked. Really feel for him on a personal level. Good for Liverpool as he gets some rest but really tough mentally for him,” one fan reacted.
