- The match between La Masia and Polokwane Cit was blighted by alleged dubious decisions by the match officials
- This led to angry players and team officials confronting them, resulting in them being escorted out by security
The ABC Motsepe League continues to be mired in controversy.
The match between La Masia and Polokwane City was allegedly ruined by dubious refereeing decisions.
According to FARPost, the referee and his assistants missed seven offside calls and were awarded a dubious penalty, among other things. For instance, a City player pulled La Masia defender Liam De Kock. Both players fell simultaneously after De Kock had won the ball, with the referee somehow pointing to the spot.

The publication's editor Mthokizisi Dube incredulously exclaimed:
“This is unbelievable. How is that a penalty? In fact, it should have been a free-kick to La Masia. I’m shocked by the standard of refereeing here."
City levelled the scores from the penalty kick and would go on to win the match.
An angry La Masia coach Delano Hendricks said:
“The ball bounces, my player wins and gets kicked in the box. A penalty is awarded to the opponent. Absurd. I’ve never seen something like that in football before. The game continues, and seven times, we have the [City] striker receiving the ball in an offside position; it was not flagged. Not even once.
“In the first half, our player is pulled down and denied a goal-scoring opportunity. He’s beat the line and is the last man left to score. No free kick. We were just robbed. The referees made no secret of their plan.”
