NBALeon Bailey: Aston Villa Star Releases Statement After Painful Clash With Lisandro Martinez
- Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey has expressed his disappointment with the Video Assistant Referee during his side's clash with Manchester United
- Bailey felt that the Lisandro Martinez foul on him warranted a review, but the Argentinian defender escaped even without a caution
- The winger was among the goal scorers to help Unai Emery begin his reign at Villa Park with a positive victory
Leon Bailey was left frustrated after the Video Assistant Referee failed to look into an incident involving him and Manchester United's defender Lisandro Martinez.
Bailey was one of the standout performers for Aston Villa as they beat United 3-1 at Villa Park. The Jamaican opened the scoring, with Lucas Digne and Jacob Ramsey scoring the other goals.
In the second half however, Bailey was involved in a scuffle with Martinez that left him writhing in pain. As Martinez tried to shield Bailey from getting to the ball, replays show that he swung his elbow and hit the winger in his stomach.
Referee Anthony Taylor was satisfied with the challenge and so was the Video Assistant Referee, a decision that left Bailey astounded.

"Very disappointed in the referees today, I couldn’t [breathe] for a second after getting elbowed twice in my [ribs]. The linesman went on to say I shouldn’t be saying anything because I was doing just the same thing to Martinez. Sometimes I don’t understand why we got VAR. SMH."
Bailey's goal took him up to three for the season. He has also produced a further two assists.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Mings clash
Sports Brief also reported that the Aston Villa versus Manchester United Premier League clash was marked with dramatic scenes, as players clashed midway through the match.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Tyrone Mings sparked the huge brawl after the duo wrestled each other to the ground. Ronaldo came to blows with the English star while the Red Devils were on the attack.
Ronaldo, who was captaining United during the clash, was attempting to hold off Mings in a bid to create some space, only for the pair to become entangled in the process.
