Ghana’s sports minister Mustapha Ussif said via Kickgh.com as per Daily Post:

“There’s a discussion that Ghana should bid with the likes of Nigeria and Benin. We are still considering it. We have not taken a decision yet but there is that discussion that we should get sister countries so that we can put in that bid.”

Initially, the tournament was to be hosted by Guinea, but the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rescinded the decision due to a lack of funds to implement the required facilities, Complete Sports reports.

It would be recalled that Ghana and Nigeria co-hosted the 2008 edition of the AFCON.

Nigeria ready to host AFCON 2025

Meanwhile, former president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has suggested that the country will possibly bid to co-host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

It is almost 13 years since the country last hosted any major football tournament, and Pinnick said he notified the Confederation of African Football of Nigeria’s desire to host the tournament.

West African neighbours Cameroon hosted the last edition, and Ivory Coast is scheduled to host the next edition slated for January 2024.

Why Guinea lost AFCON 2023 hosting rights

Sports Brief earlier reported that Guinean interim president Colonel Mamady Doumbouya met with CAF president Patrice Motsepe to discuss the country's withdrawal.

A CAF media statement revealed that CAF's executive committee would meet on Saturday with the intention of reopening the bidding process.

Cameroon also had to pull out of hosting the 2019 edition because of similar reasons, before it was moved to Egypt.
