Ex-Barcelona superstar Andres Iniesta has labelled Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric as one of the greatest players ever in football history.

Modric joined Los Blancos from Tottenham in 2012 and has cemented his legendary status at the Santiago Bernabeu following his scintillating displays.

The 37-year-old still remains a vital player under Carlo Ancelotti, winning the Champions League and LaLiga last season, even though he is in the twilight years of his illustrious career.

This is similar to what happened with Iniesta during the final phase of his career.

The current Vissel Kobe star discussed the similarities between himself and Modric, via Madrid Universal.

“We are players with different profiles but at the same time similar in terms of position on the field, conception of the game, and handling the ball…
“He is one of the best midfielders there is and will ever be. He is a reference for his team and it is not easy to spend so many years at a club like Madrid making a difference.”

Iniesta thinking about Barcelona return

Meanwhile, Andres Iniesta has reiterated his desire to one day return to Barcelona in some official capacity when he finally retires from football, SB Nation reports.

Iniesta acknowledged he wouldn't mind coaching or serving as a sporting director in the future, after witnessing Xavi return to Barcelona as the team's coach.

The 38-year-old midfielder is still with Japanese side Vissel Kobe, but his contract expires in 2023.

Iniesta shares his depression struggles

Sports Brief earlier reported that Barcelona icon Andreas Iniesta wants everyone to realise that footballers are humans too, and they can have their struggles despite making mega money from the sport.

The 38-year-old midfielder, who currently plies his trade in Japan for Vissel Kobe, recently opened up on his struggles with depression and how he has been in therapy over his mental health issues.

According to Sport Bible, Iniesta revealed he lost the joy he had for life when he was battling with deep depression, as nothing felt 'alive' to him anymore.
