Asamoah Gyan has described fans who hide behind social media to critique and insult him as hypocrites.

The legendary Ghanaian footballer vented his frustrations at supporters for 'coming at him' on various apps, and then pretending to like him when they see him in person.

Gyan received huge backlash during his time with the Black Stars, despite his prolific goal scoring form for the national team.

He recently revealed his intentions of playing at the World Cup. This statement received massive criticism on social media, with many declaring his time with the Black Stars was over.

"I feel like social media is now very strong in the world right now," he said on Fiifi Banson's Soccer Chat show on GH One TV.

Gyan admitted that despite working hard behind the scenes, he did interact on social media and sometimes saw the disrespect coming his way. Often, he felt it was like the fans were talking to him directly.

"During those days, you can't even see a player like me to get to close and just insult the person. These days, everybody just talks to you anyhow. Honestly, when I am on the streets I do feel the love, but at the back off my mind I am like 'look at these hypocrites'."

He remains Ghana's all-time leading scorer, with 51 goals in 109 appearances for the Black Stars.

Former GFA president Nyaho-Tamakloe calls for Asamoah Gyan's inclusion in World Cup squad

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that ex-Ghana Football Association boss, Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe believes Asamoah Gyan can make a difference in the Black Stars team, saying he has to be included in squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The former Black Stars captain has not been part of the team since the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

However, Nyaho-Tamakloe insists the legendary forward could be an asset for Ghana in Qatar next month.
