Goals from Sadio Mane, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Benjamin Pavard ensured Barca exited the competition with their tails between their legs.

Despite the humiliating nature of their elimination, some followers of the club stayed behind to applaud the efforts of Xavi's charges, as shown in a video posted on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief.

Barcelona crash out of UCL

The Catalans' fate had already been decided before the kick-off at Camp Nou on Wednesday, after Inter Milan thrashed Viktoria Plzen 4-0 to guarantee their progression to the last 16.

Inter's victory meant the Blaugrana crashed out of the Champions League in the first round for a second consecutive season, and meant the Bayern Munich clash was a dead rubber for Barca.

However, Bayern clinched the top spot in Champions League Group C with a 3-0 win over the already eliminated Barcelona, causing the Blaugrana to drop to the Europa League, as reported by Sports Brief.

The Catalans had reached the knock-out rounds in the 17 prior editions of the UCL tournament, before consecutive early eliminations under coach Xavi Hernandez.

Fans slam Barca's woeful defence

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that social media users have slammed Barcelona defenders, after they conceded two first-half goals against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The Blaugrana had already dropped to the Europa League prior to kick-off, after Inter Milan demolished Viktoria Plzen in the group's other game on Wednesday.

The Italian giants are six points ahead of Xavi Hernandez's team and cannot be overtaken by the Catalans, thanks to their better head-to-head record.
