  • Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe starred as Paris Saint-Germain defeated Maccabi Haifa 7-2 to advance to the UEFA Champions League knockout stages
  • The superstar trio have been responsible for 40 of PSG's half-century of goals scored across all competitions this season
  • Their telepathic understanding has triggered a truckload of praise from PSG head coach Christophe Galtier

Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier was full of admiration for his fearsome trident comprising Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

The attacking trident put on a spectacular performance to seal qualification to the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League, in spectacular fashion.

Mbappe and Messi grabbed a brace while Neymar added a solitary strike, as PSG thrashed Israeli outfit Maccabi Haifa 7-2 at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.

Speaking after the comprehensive victory, Christophe Galtier was delighted with his team's performance, with specific praise going to his attacking trio.

"We played fantastic football. There was a lot of connection between the lines, especially between the midfield and our three strikers who were fabulous," he said as quoted by Get French Football News.

Galtier commented on the 'great connection' between Messi, Mbappe and Neymar, adding that when everyone played for the team, it gave a good image. He also mentioned a system complementing their styles and allowing the attacking trio to express themselves more freely.

"Their technical quality and their relationship in small spaces, as well as the fact that they defend more densely, allow us to have more rapid transitions. When one of the three goes off with the ball, it just plays for each other and it’s obviously very nice to see."
“But it’s very nice to train them, especially the front three. To have them every day in training, with yesterday’s [Monday] morning session, which was of an exceptional level, and on top of that to see them express themselves like that, for a coach, it’s the Holy Grail…”

Ex-France coach hails Leo Messi

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former France manager Raymond Domenech has lauded Lionel Messi, saying the Paris Saint-Germain star is the 'most wonderful player' he has ever seen in his life.

Messi is enjoying a resurgent season with the Parisians this term and appears to be back to his very best, scoring 11 goals and assisting 12 times this season.

The 35-year-old is the only player to score 10+ goals and deliver 10+ assists in all competitions among players in the Top 5 European leagues this season, per Opta Joe.
