A Spanish family has been plunged into panic and anxiety after their kin, who was going for the 2022 World Cup by foot, reportedly went missing.
Santiago Sanchez is understood to have taken the long and treacherous journey from the city of Madrid by trekking, hoping to make it for the global football tournament set to kick off in mid-November in Qatar.

An experienced trekker, a former paratrooper and a passionate football fan, Sanchez was a man on a mission.

A mission that had earned him praise and fame from around the world in the football fraternity.
However, many, particularly his family, which has been following his journey, are not sitting pretty.
This after the Spanish man reportedly went missing in Iran en route to Doha, Qatar.
According to the Associated Press (via ESPN.com), the 41-year-old has not been in touch with his family since October 2.
It is reported that the trekker went off the ladder after making his way into Iran, with the family making a report of a missing person nearly two weeks later.

Football"After a few days, we didn't worry about him not posting; it matched what he had said," his mother, Celia Cogedor, said.
His last post on Instagram was on October 1, a day after losing touch with his family.
He has also not been seen on WhatsApp, where he made updates often.
Previously, Sports Brief reported that former UEFA President and France legend Michel Platini had revealed that the 1998 World Cup draw was tampered with.
Platini, who was under trial together with former FIFA President Sepp Blatter, confessed that there was a scheme to ensure that hosts France didn’t meet pre-tournament favourites Brazil until the final.
