  • Manchester United have been given a green light to swoop in for on-form Lille striker Jonathan David
  • With Cristiano Ronaldo unsettled and United in the market for a striker, David could be the solution to all their problems
  • David is the second joint top scorer in France this season, on goal behind PSG star Kylian Mbappe who has 10 goals

Manchester United have been given significant by Lille striker Jonathan David who has been heavily linked with the Red Devils as they shop for a long-term striker.

Erik ten Hag's side have lacked a consistent true centre forward for many years, and with his team coming together nicely, they may be forced to move in for a striker like David in January.

Furthermore, Ronaldo's wish to exit Old Trafford forces Man United to draw up a shortlist of strikers to add depth to their depleted attacking department.

In addition, Marcus Rashford's insistence on playing in the wide areas and Anthony Martial's persistent injury problems mean the club must act quickly to fix the situation if they want to play Champions League football next season.

According to the Mirror, David is open to moving to a massive club.

"The next step is always growing, having more ambition, a bigger club, I think. Every player wants to play for a massive club in their life. So I think if I had the chance to do it, I'll go for it for sure."

David is ready to represent Canada at the World Cup in Qatar next month. The Canadian has scored 37 goals in 87 Ligue 1 appearances.

Chelsea eyeing David

Sports Brief earlier reported on Chelsea manager Graham Potter wanting three other strikers to be prioritised to Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo.

Potter instead wants the club to prioritise the signing of either AC Milan's Rafael Leao, Brentford's Ivan Toney or Lille's Jonathan David.

However, Chelsea American owner Todd Boehly wants the Portuguese for the commercial benefits he could bring.
