  • After splashing the cash in the summer transfer window, FC Barcelona could suffer a Champions League group stage exit for the second successive season
  • The Blaugrana have won just one out of four outings, and will need to win the remaining two games while hoping Inter Milan stumbles to avoid group-stage elimination
  • Ahead of Wednesday's matchday five fixture against Bayern Munich, head coach Xavi Hernandez believes the task is complicated

Xavi Hernandez has disclosed FC Barcelona will need 'more than a miracle' ahead of their penultimate game in the Champions League group stages.

Xavi's charges will lock horns against Group C leaders Bayern Munich on Wednesday, October 26 in a make-or-break encounter.

Barcelona have had a topsy-turvy campaign in Europe's premier club competition, failing to pick up a win in their last three outings after starting on a blistering note with a 5-1 triumph against Viktoria Plzen.

With two games left in the group stages, the six-time winners of the competition have a slim hope of reaching the last 16, needing to win against Bayern and Plzen while hoping Inter Milan drops points.

Speaking ahead of his side's crucial penultimate Champions League game, Xavi admitted his side will need more than divine intervention to avoid a second successive group stage elimination.

“We need more than a miracle, we have a small hope, although we are in a very uncomfortable situation. In football, sometimes the one who deserved it doesn’t always win,” the 42-year-old manager said as quoted by Barca Universal.
“The qualification does not lie in our hands, but we have to try and win no matter what happens in Milan.”

Xavi's job is at stake

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has admitted his job will be on the line if he fails to deliver trophies for the Catalan giants.

Xavi has come under intense scrutiny in the past weeks following a run of poor results, with his side on the brink of a group-stage Champions League exit and also suffering defeat in last Sunday's El Clasico against Real Madrid.

The pressure is mounting on the legendary former Barcelona midfielder to get his squad competing for silverware.
