Lionel Messi’s reunion with Barcelona is gaining momentum and his former national teammate, Sergio Aguero has added to the speculation of the Argentine’s return to Camp Nou.
Messi was forced to leave the Catalans for Paris Saint-Germain last year as Barcelona’s poor financial structure, coupled with an inflated wage setup, made it impossible for them to afford him.
According to Barca Universal, Aguero has now revealed that Messi was excited about renewing his contract with Barcelona as he wanted to play alongside him at Camp Nou.
“When Leo Messi was about to extend his contract with FC Barcelona, every couple of days he got excited. ‘Take a picture of me with the Barça shirt’, he used to ask me.”

However, Messi didn’t get the opportunity to play with Aguero, as Barcelona’s economic crisis meant the Argentine had to leave before the start of the 2021/22 season.

Meanwhile, Aguero said he thought someone had hacked Barcelona’s social media accounts when it was announced Lionel Messi was leaving the club, Goal reports.
The former Manchester City forward had high hopes for his move to Camp Nou, as he had agreed to play alongside Lionel Messi in June 2021 when he joined Barcelona.
Messi's departure from Barcelona was revealed only a few weeks later though, leaving Aguero in complete shock at what he felt must have been a joke.
