Nigerian international Sylvester Igboun, who recently joined Indian side NorthEast United, has dumped the club barely a month after signing his contract.

It is believed the 6-cap Super Eagles striker left the club due to poor accommodation, which he had complained about to the team's authorities on several occasions.

Reports have it that the former FC Ebedei star joined the Guwahati-based side on a one-year deal, ahead of the 2022/23 Indian Super League season.

Due to visa issues, the 32-year-old was stuck in Russia and could not feature for his new side in their first two games of the season.

Igboun arrived in the third week of October and took some time to settle in, then made his first appearance during their home game against East Bengal.

Khel Now quoted a source within the club as per Soccernet:

“Sly has left the club due to poor accommodation. He was very disappointed to see the state of the place that the club provided him. Apparently, many players are unhappy with the living conditions, but Sylvester Igboun was the one who chose to walk out first.”

Punch reports that the Indian outfit had previously accommodated the team at Radisson Blu, a five-star hotel in that city. This year however, they managed to provide flats around the stadium.

How Igboun left Nizhny Novgorod

Sports Brief earlier reported that Sylvester Igboun suspended his contract at Russian club Nizhny Novgorod, due to the ongoing invasion of the European nation Ukraine.

He had only played one game for the club when in March, football and all major sporting activities were suspended in these two nations as tensions escalated.

Russian President Vladimir Putin then ordered an invasion of Ukraine, with several persons killed and facilities destroyed - a situation which forced many sports stars to leave.
