After suffering the embarrassing 6-3 defeat to crosstown rivals Manchester City a few weeks ago, Erik ten Hag's side have recovered impressively, winning four and drawing two of their last six games, according to Soccerway.

Last week Wednesday, they produced their best performance in a long time as they swept aside an out-of-sorts Tottenham Hotspur side 2-0, according to Sky Sports.

Ferdinand picks his two players

According to the Mirror, the United legend has picked two players who he feels have made a massive difference to the club this season.

Ferdinand picked Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane as the two that make the biggest difference to the team.

"Martinez has been top this season but Varane gives us something different, that speed, that experience and physicality. I think he could be a huge loss. You need them two back together. We’ve seen straight away that those two together make us a different team, it’s as simple as that," he commented.

With Varane injured however, Martinez will have to get used to a new partner.

"It seems to me that it isn't going to be Harry Maguire who comes in now. It looks like it's going to be Lindelof."

Ferdinand made 455 appearances for United and won six Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League, according to Transfermarkt.

Ferdinand on Cristiano Ronaldo row

Sports Brief earlier reported on Ferdinand explaining how manager Erik ten Hag should've dealt with the Cristiano Ronaldo situation differently.

"I wouldn't have been happy as a player. Ronaldo mentioned he would have handled things differently. The way of treating him is different to everybody else. Communication. That's probably the first time in his life where that's not upheld by the manager."

Since the saga occurred, Ferdinand has passionately defended the Portugal star.
