  • Arsenal failed to cement their lead at the top of the Premier League standings during matchweek 11 as they dropped points at Southampton
  • The Gunners settled for a 1-1 draw at St. Mary's, to miss out on a glorious chance to restore their four-point advantage at the top
  • The Mikel Arteta-tutored side are still leading the charts with 28 points however, just two ahead of second-placed City
  • Chelsea, Man United and Liverpool all suffered a top-four blow, with the Blues dropping to fifth after Newcastle sneaked into the fourth spot

Matchweek 11 of the Premier League saw top English teams, including Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, all drop points.

Only Manchester City secured all three points in their fixture among the traditional top-six teams, with the Gunners stumbling in their title charge during their trip at Southampton on Sunday.

City demolished Brighton 3-1 on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium to keep pace with Arsenal, with their victory enough to narrow the north Londoners' lead at the top to just two points.

Therefore, Mikel Arteta's charges were in need of a win when they traveled to St. Mary's to restore their four-point advantage at the summit.

However, the Emirates Stadium outfit were forced to a 1-1 draw as the Saints ended their eight-game winning streak.

The result leaves them occupying the top spot with 28 points, just two ahead of City who have 26.

Tottenham remain third with 23 points despite their 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle, who climbed to fourth with 21 points after that result.

United, Liverpool suffer top-four blow

Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge saw both teams suffer a top-four blow, with the Blues dropping to fifth with 21 points.

United are down to sixth with 20 points while Liverpool, who have had a disastrous start to the season, are placed eighth.

The Reds have been breathing hot and cold for the better part of the new campaign, with Jurgen Klopp's men unable to maintain their momentum.

Despite seeing off Man City last weekend at Anfield, the Merseysiders failed to replicate that form when they traveled to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The relegation-battlers stunned them 1-0, with the result denying Klopp's charges a chance to close in on the top four.

Elsewhere, Leeds United, Wolves and Nottingham are the three teams occupying the relegation zone.

All three sides have nine points each, with managerless Wolves already on a disastrous run following their recent defeat at the hands of Leicester City.

Fans slam Southampton vs Arsenal refereeing

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Arsenal fans have claimed that they were robbed of a favourable result during their trip to Southampton on Sunday.

The Premier League leaders were held to a 1-1 draw during the clash, with Stuart Armstrong cancelling out Granit Xhaka's opener.

Whereas the Saints showed a fighting spirit, especially in the second half, Arsenal fans contend the referee had a hand in their disappointing result.
