Steven Gerrard took a ride in Aston Villa's team bus, despite getting sacked shortly after his side's disappointing defeat at Fulham.

Gerrard has been under severe pressure in the last few weeks after a poor start to the season, and the loss at Craven Cottage was the final straw. Villa are 17th on the table with nine points.

Villa suffered a frustrating 3-0 defeat to an in-form Fulham side, who swept them aside. Villa's troubles were compounded after midfielder Douglas Luiz was sent off for headbutting Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Villa have won just twice this season in 11 matches and sit just above the relegation zone, according to the BBC.

The Liverpool legend took over from Dean Smith late last year and failed to bring tangible progress to Villa Park.

Gerrard travels on team bus

Although he was no longer a staff member for Villa, the Champions League winner travelled on the team bus. The club announced his departure an hour after full-time.

According to The Athletic, the 42-year-old returned to the club’s training ground and addressed the players before heading their separate ways. Before getting fired moments later, Gerrard expressed his desire to change things.

"Inconsistency has cost us, that's the position we find ourselves in. I took over the team in a very similar situation. We've tried to recruit to get us out of that situation. I'm a fighter - it's in my DNA. I'll continue to fight unless I'm told differently."

Gerrard is the fourth manager to be sacked in the Premier League this season.

Pochettini linked with Villa job

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Mauricio Pochettino being linked with Aston Villa's managerial job since being let go from PSG in the summer.

Villa have some work to do if they want to bring the Argentine to Villa Park however.

Pochettino had a successful spell in England with Southampton and Tottenham, making the latter a perennial Champions League team.
