Speaking after the Elche win, Valverde disclosed Carlo Ancelotti had set a target for him to score 10 goals for Real Madrid this season, otherwise he was going to retire from management, GFSN reports.

“I’m happy for the team. He (Ancelotti) already said it, I have to score more than 10 goals. I’m focused on doing it. It’s nice pressure to have. I don’t want to take the blame for the coach retiring.”

Real Madrid retained the top spot in La Liga after a convincing win away to Elche, with goals from Fede Valverde, Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio all hitting the target for the La Liga champions.

Madrid shrug off disallowed goals

Meanwhile, Real Madrid were not deterred despite seeing the match officials disallow three of their goals in the 3-0 win against Elche. The Spanish giants maintained their unbeaten start to the season, Marca reports.

Karim Benzema’s 6th-minute effort was ruled out after Brazilian winger, Vinicius Junior was adjudged to have been offside in the build-up, with VAR confirming the referee’s decision.

David Alaba’s 27th-minute strike and another Benzema goal in the 61st minute were also rightfully chalked off for offside by the match officials, led by Jesus Gil.

Valverde will be next Ballon d’Or winner

Earlier, Sports Brief reported football fans on social media have touted Real Madrid's Federico Valverde as a prospective Ballon d'Or winner in the near future.

Social media users came to the aforementioned conclusion on the back of a photo, which has since gone viral after surfacing on the internet on Tuesday, October 18.

In the photo posted on Twitter, Valverde was spotted admiring the Ballon d'Or prize brought to the club's training grounds by 2022 holder Karim Benzema.
