FootballDStv Premiership Match Report: Mamelodi Sundowns Squeak Past Marumo Gallants in Controversial Circumstances
- Mamelodi Sundowns had to work very hard for a 1-0 win against Marumo Gallants in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday evening
- Sphelele Mkhulise opened the scoring for the defending champions in the first half, but this did not deter the visitors from making a nuisance of themselves
- Gallants were denied a late, late equaliser that came via a free-kick, which was chalked off for offsides by the officials
Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Marumo Gallants 1-0 in a DStv Premiership encounter on Wednesday evening.
Riyaaz Nel nearly opened the scoring for Gallants in the 14th minute, getting on the end of a Celimpilo Ngema cross at the near posts, but having to helplessly watch on as Ronwen Williams thwarted him in the 14th minute.
Sundowns continued to dominate after that, but were often let down by their decision-making in the final third, as Teboho Mokoena and Marcelo Allende registered shots from distance.
The hosts eventually got their reward in the 27th minute when a neat pass passing move ended up with Mokoena teeing up Sphelele Mkhulise, who sent a first-time finish into the bottom corner of the net past Zimbabwean shot-stopper Washington Arubi for his first league goal of the season.

Gallants thought they had snuck themselves a point through a late set-piece, but this was rightly chalked of for offsides. Their players surrounded the referee and linesman in disgraceful fashion during and after the match, which will likely see disciplinary actions taken against the club.
