Ballon d’Or: Charming Video of Barca’s Pedri Silently Guiding Gavi Through His First Red Carpet Experience

Barcelona midfield prodigy Gavi succeeded teammate Pedri as the recipient of the Kopa Trophy, at this year's edition of the Ballon d'Or ceremony on Monday, October 17.

Gavi beat competition from Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga who finished in second position, as well as Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich who came in third in the final ranking.

The 18-year-old Spain international has not looked back since he debuted with FC Barcelona last season, playing 60 games for the Catalan giants and securing 12 caps for Spain.

Despite succeeding Pedri, the midfield prospect needed guidance from his friend and 'big brother' at his first-ever Ballon d'Or experience.

In a video posted on Twitter, seen by Sports Brief, Pedri silently guided Gavi - who looked nervous at the awards ceremony - as he posed for pictures on the red carpet of the event staged at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.

What is the Kopa Trophy?

The Kopa Trophy was created in 2018 by France Football, organisers of the Ballon d'Or, MARCA reports.

Bar 2020, when no awards were given due to the cancellation of the awards due to Covid-19, the Kopa Trophy has been awarded every year.

Kylian Mbappe won the prize in its first edition, followed by Matthijs de Ligt, and Pedri, who also received the Golden Boy prize last season.

Gavi wins the Kopa Trophy

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Barcelona and Spain midfield prospect Gavi won the Kopa Trophy for the best player of last season aged under 21, at the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris on Monday.

The 18-year-old, whose full name is Pablo Martin Paez Gavira, succeeds his Barcelona teammate Pedri, who won the prize last year.

Kylian Mbappe and Matthijs de Ligt are also former winners of the award, which is named after former Real Madrid and France star Raymond Kopa.
