Robert Lewandowski has another trophy to his collection.
The Barcelona striker was named the winner of the Gerd Müller award at the 2022 Ballon d’Or.
The award, renamed after the German legend, is awarded to the best striker of the past year who scored the most goals for club and country in one season.
Lewandowski won the award for the second time, but the first since it was renamed after Müller.

Lewandowski won the award after having an incredible season with Bayern Munich. The Polish striker scored 50 times for the German giants in 46 games and also netted seven times for Poland.
During his speech, Lewandowski thanked his former Bayern Munich teammates for the role they played in helping him achieve the feat.
He also praised the legend Müller whom he described as an inspiration to him. Lewandowski also broke Müller’s Bundesliga goals record while in the Bundesliga.
He also thanked his new teammates at Barcelona and commented that he was confident they could continue growing as a club.
Lastly, Lewandowski thanked his family for continuing to inspire him every single day.
Alexia Putellas wins second successive women's Ballon d'Or
Spain's Alexia Putellas won the women's Ballon d'Or for the second year running on Monday, the reward coming after a season in which she was the top scorer as her club Barcelona reached the Champions League final.

FootballThe 28-year-old Putellas saw off stiff competition, notably from three stars of the England team that won the European Championship, to take the award following a campaign which also saw Barcelona win a domestic league and cup double.
The prize, awarded at a star-studded ceremony at the Chatelet Theatre in central Paris, is a consolation for Putellas, who is currently recovering from a serious knee injury.
