Footage showing a handful of football fans defying heavy floods to watch the English Premier League match between Liverpool and Manchester City has gone viral.

The league is widely viewed across Nigeria and despite the heavy floods in the southern part of the country, football fans stormed viewing centers to watch the game.

It was Mohamed Salah’s 76th minute goal that separated the two sides during the mouthwatering fixture at Anfield.

The build-up to the massive game had suggested a cagey affair - and the encounter lived up to its pre-match billing with nothing separating the two sides in the first half.

Salah had other plans however, after he received a long pass from goalkeeper Alisson. The Egyptian rounded the defender and slotted home the only goal of the game in the 76th minute, with Nigerian fans enjoying the spectacle despite the flooding.

Disastrous floods ravage Nigeria

Flooding has continued to ravage communities in Nigeria, with the BBC branding the situation as an 'overwhelming disaster' which has left over 600 people dead.

Statistics indicate that no fewer than 1.3 million people have been displaced and more than 200,000 homes have been destroyed. Flooding is expected to continue until the end of November.

All that did not stop football fans from thronging a submerged viewing centre in the country, to cheer on their respective team.

The fans seemed in relaxed mood as they placed chairs amid the water and watched Liverpool versus Man City with the utmost attention.

Liverpool fans lambast Darwin Nunez

Sports Brief earlier reported that Liverpool star Darwin Nunez has found himself on the receiving end, following his 'selfish' act during his side's Premier League clash against Man City.

Jurgen Klopp drafted the summer signing in his attack to partner Mohamed Salah in the hunt for goals, when the Reds hosted City at Anfield on Sunday, October 16.

However, Nunez was unable to find the back of the net, with Salah emerging as Liverpool's saviour.
