FootballFrank Lampard Compares Mourinho to League One Manager As He Gives Honest Assessment About His Chelsea Mentor
- Everton head coach Frank Lampard has said Jose Mourinho heavily influenced him and his coaching, but he could learn as much from a Division One manager
- Mourinho coached Lampard at Chelsea, where they won two Premier League titles
- Lampard is a few years into his coaching career and has managed Derby County, Chelsea and Everton
Everton manager Frank Lampard has given his blunt assessment of his former manager Jose Mourinho, saying that as much as he learnt from the Portuguese, football is different now than it was two decades ago.
Mourinho made a triumphant entry to English football in 2004. He won the Premier League in his first season with a record number of points at that time and his Chelsea side conceded the fewest goals - 15 - a record that still stands today.
Mourinho's Chelsea side was centred on the foundation of Frank Lampard and John Terry, sweeping aside the Arsenal and Manchester United hegemony that had won every league title since 1996.
The 'Special One' won the title in the 2004/06 and 2005/06 seasons. His Chelsea side from 2004/06 season is considered one of the best in the Premier League era.

Lampard's assessment of Mourinho
Lampard is just beginning his new career and has already coached three teams, Derby County, Chelsea and Everton. The Chelsea legend now claims that Mourinho's tactics are outdated, as much as he's learned from them.
"And as much as Jose Mourinho did, and I'll always answer that, it was 20 years ago, nearly. So for me to talk about an effect Jose Mourinho had on me 20 years ago is not necessarily relative to what's now," said Lampard according to The Sun.
Although he lauds him for his influence, Lampard said he could learn as much from a Division One manager.
Gabriel Jesus says he left City over Guardiola style of play
Football"I can learn as much as I can, and this is no disrespect, I'll always say Jose because he changed my career. But I could learn as much by listening to a podcast of a manager working in Division One now as I can from some of that from 20 years ago."
Still, Mourinho won the Europa Conference League last season with AS Roma, a sign that he could still do it on the biggest stage.
Frank Lampard lauds Cristiano Ronaldo
Sports Brief earlier reported on Frank Lampard heaping praise on Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored his 700th club goal against Everton last Sunday.
Lampard said Ronaldo is one of the greatest ever players alongside Lionel Messi. He also said there's no need to compare the two as they're both incredible.
Lampard went through Messi's Barcelona to lift the 2012 Champions League.
