Rooi Mahamutsa has not retired, despite assumptions that he would hang his boots at the end of last season.
'Ngubo' (the blanket) has been without a club since being released by Motsepe Foundation Championship side TS Sporting at the end of the 2021/22 season.
He recently appeared in a viral video playing in an amateur match, where a troll mocked him for his playing days at Orlando Pirates, which brought him back into the public's imagination.

“Honestly speaking, I haven’t retired in football. Any opportunity that comes, if anyone says 'you know what, come I need you to help me with this and this in my team,' I’d go there. I’d go and play and I’d give my 100% to that team."
"Anything and whoever, I’m willing to help not because I don’t have money, I can manage myself. Some people who have seen me playing say, ‘no you can’t be 40, look at that young boy [who is] 20 something but you’re running past him’."
KickOff reported in February that Mahamutsa had agreed on a deal with the Sporting until the end of the season. He worked with former Pirates teammate Benson Mhlongo, who is the current coach of the team.

As reported by Sports Brief, a viral video showed the 40-year-old being heckled by a 'fan' as he played in an amateur team at an unnamed location.
This appeared to antagonise Pirates supporters as well as other football lovers, who refused to tolerate the disrespect aimed at 'Ngubo'.
