  • Trent-Alexander Arnold has endured a difficult start to the campaign so far, with some tactical mistakes leading to goals against Liverpool
  • The England right-back’s club is languishing in 10th place on the log, with concern raised over goals conceded
  • Arnold admits it is not easy playing in his position, and says it sometimes feels like he is ‘in shackles’

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has opened up on what it is like to play in defence, as he made an honest admission about his style of play.

The young right-back has come under intense scrutiny this season over his defensive abilities, with large sections of fans saying he was largely responsible for Liverpool’s concession of goals.

Things went from bad to worse for the 24-year-old after he suffered an ankle injury setback, which puts him on the sidelines for the Manchester City match.

He recently spoke to GQ Magazine where he opened up about recent criticism about his football.

The right-back admitted he has never liked to ‘play his position’ and prefers to ‘play the game’ rather than feel like he is restricted to one position on the pitch.

“You play the position, it limits you. It's like playing with shackles on,” he said as quoted by Daily Mail.
“I've always thought that with a sensible mind, play the game, get in positions that will hurt the opposition, and at the same time do the defensive work you need to do. It's more: play the game how it needs to be played.”

On his England side, Trent backed the Three Lions to go all the way in the tournament, despite a recent slump and calls for manager Gareth Southgate to be sacked.

Liverpool's injury woes continue

Sports Brief earlier reported that Liverpool defenders Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold would be sidelined for at least two weeks.

Matip injured his calf during Liverpool's 3-2 loss to Arsenal, with Alexander-Arnold injuring his ankle in the same match.

Jurgen Klopp will be without both for Sunday's clash with Premier League champions Manchester City at Anfield.
