  • Former FIFA referee and current television Andile 'Ace' Ncobo has discussed an extraordinary event from last weekend
  • Kaizer Chiefs was awarded three penalties against Stellenbosch FC in a remarkable DStv Premiership match in Cape Town
  • Caleb Bimenyimana, who was fouled for two of them, stepped forward to bury all of them on a historic afternoon

Former FIFA referee and resident SuperSport analyst Andile 'Ace' Ncobo has given his thoughts on a historic occurrence last Sunday.

'Mr Spot On' dissected the validity of three penalties that Kaizer Chiefs were awarded in a dramatic DStv Premiership encounter against Stellenbosch FC. Amakhosi striker Caleb Bimenyimana - who won two of them - scored all three for a historic hat-trick.

Speaking on Extra Time, Ncobo said after Maroons defender Mogamad de Goede brought down the Burundian:

"The referee, having been correctly positioned, [gave the] right decision, whether the penalty was soft, medium or hard-boiled like eggs. Spot-on decision by the referee."

The second penalty was as straightforward as they come, with Fawaaz Basadien inexcusably handling the ball in the box.

As for the third one, de Goede brought down Bimenyimana as he bore down with just the Stellenbosch goalkeeper to beat. The former was adjudicated to have committed a professional foul, with the referee showing him a straight red card for his efforts.

Ncobo said:

"Here, there were three infringements on the player [Bimenyimana]. He [de Goede] starts to lay his back outside the 18-yard area. There is a push, there, which the referee does not blow for. He stops the match for the holding."
"By the time the third infringement takes place, he has taken a decision that there is an obvious goal-scoring opportunity that has been denied. This was also a spot-on decision."

Kaizer Chiefs striker Caleb Bimenyima joins Ronaldo, rare group of players to score historic hat-trick

Caleb Bimenyimana entered the history books for Kaizer Chiefs in their 3-1 victory over Stellenbosch FC on Sunday afternoon.

As reported by Sports Brief, the Burundian became the first player in the history of the Premier Soccer League to claim a hat-trick that came entirely from the penalty spot. This is a very rare feat for any footballer to achieve.

For instance, on 2 June 2004, the legendary Brazilian wizard Ronaldo scored all three goals from the penalty spot against arch-rivals Argentina.
