Former Manchester United captain Patrice Evra has suggested that the jollof rice war between Ghana and Nigeria 'will never end'.

With its tantalising aroma, deep-red colour and spicy flavour, jollof rice is the undisputed queen of West African kitchens.

The culinary treasure is adopted in several West African countries, and these nations have made it so personal when it comes to pride and contention, QZ reports.

However, the 41-year-old seems to have changed his mind after tasting the delicacy prepared by a Nigerian once again.

The Senegal-born superstar has continued to engage his Instagram followers as he gave an update, claiming a ‘big guy’ accosted him in a restaurant and wrote to him never to undermine the Nigerian jollof.

Evra said:

“Guys, that jollof war will never end. I was in a restaurant and a big guy dropped a piece of paper on my table and left. I turned it and saw 'don’t ever say that Ghanaian jollof is better than Nigerian jollof'.
“So I feel scared and feel threatened for my life. So I’m going to give another chance to my Nigerian people, maybe I tasted the not too good one the first time.”

To his delight, the former footballer held a plate of Nigerian jollof as he ate. He added:

“So let’s be fair…let’s see. That’s what I’m talking about. OMG - I’m sorry my Ghanaian brothers, this is the best. I love this game, happy Monday to all my Nigerian people.”

Playing in the background was the trending song Mood by Wizkid featuring BNXN.

Evra wants an African team to win World Cup

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that Evra has shared his dream of seeing an African country win the World Cup, after meeting Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo.

The ex-France defender met Ghana's President on Wednesday, September 14 as part of his tour of the West African nation.

Evra represented France at an international level despite being born in Senegal. He was part of the team at the 2010 World Cup.
