Former Juventus and Inter Milan midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah has rubbished rumours that he rejected the Black Stars number 10 jersey because he was having nightmares.

Asamoah wore the famous jersey during the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations following the absence of Stephen Appiah due to injury.

However, he decided to drop the number ten jersey after the tournament with reports claiming he had nightmares anytime he wore the shirt.

"I don’t know where that story came from. I’m making it clear I never had any dreams like that. I just told them that I don’t want the [10] jersey anymore. I want to change it back to my No. 20," he told Kumasi based Pure FM as quoted by GHANASoccernet.

Asamoah represented Ghana at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, helping the Black Stars reach the final before losing to Egypt in Angola.

He was also a member of the team at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and in Brazil 2014.

The former Cagliari player made 74 appearances for the Black Stars, scoring four times for Ghana.

Asamoah also enjoyed a stellar career in Italy, playing for Udinese, Juventus, Inter Milan and Cagliari. He won six Scudetto titles and four Coppa Italia. He was part of the Juventus team that reached the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2014 and 2017.

Kwadwo Asamoah announces retirement from football

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Ghana and Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah is set to retire from football and become a football agent.

The 33-year-old enjoyed an illustrious career in Italy, where he played for Udinese, Juventus, Inter Milan and Cagliari.

And in a post on social media by his agent, Federico Pastorello, the multiple Serie A winner has decided to become a player's representative.
