Swallows FC justifies hiking ticket prices for Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs
Those attending the Soweto Derby match between Swallows FC and Kaizer Chiefs in Dobsonville were given a shock.
The club has raised the price of tickets for the much-anticipated encounter, meaning spectators will now have to fork out R100 instead of the usual R60.
The Birds' chairman David Mogashoa, talking to SowetanLIVE, said:
"This game against Chiefs was planned three weeks ago. Security will be very tight and that's why the tickets are selling at R100 each... I am not backing down because we spent R250,000 to prepare for this game. We don't leave anything to chance in category A games."
Mogashoa referenced the recent pitch invasion by Amakhosi supporters during an MTN8 quarterfinal encounter against Stellenbosch FC at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch. reported that Cape Town City caused a storm in August when they did something similar when Chiefs rolled into the Mother City.
